Herscovitch-Duncan First Nations Scholarship

In 2027, 91²Ö¿â will offer one Herscovitch-Duncan First Nations Scholarship to support an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student commencing their studies in the Bachelor of Nursing, or Bachelor of Education (any specialisation).

Established in 2024 through the founding gifts of Fleur Herscovitch, this endowed scholarship supports Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students pursuing a career in nursing or education. The scholarship commemorates the tireless efforts of Pam Duncan and her advocacy for public health investment and passion for education in and around Boggabilla in northern NSW.

Value
The scholarship will have a maximum value of $2,000 to be paid in one instalment. 

Applicants must:

  • be a currently residing in Australia
  • be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • be a
  • be intending to enrol full-time at 91²Ö¿â in the Bachelor of Nursing, or Bachelor of Education (any specialisation) in Trimester 1 2027
  • have an income at or below the financial threshold limits.

Applicants must:

  • address each personal statement question below (250 words maximum per question):
    • universities provide a pathway to transform passion into a meaningful career. What experiences, influences, or defining moments have shaped your passions, and how have they directed your choice of study and future aspirations?
    • modern careers create opportunities to make a lasting positive impact on communities and society. What are your long-term career goals within your chosen field, and how do you envision using your profession to contribute to meaningful societal change?
    • personal growth often comes through challenges, service to others, and opportunities to take initiative. Describe a situation in which you demonstrated resilience, leadership, integrity, or a willingness to contribute to others. What did you learn from the experience, and how has it shaped the person you are today?
  • provide evidence that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • provide evidence of academic achievement as directed in the application process:
    • final year school report card or post-secondary academic history (transcript of results)
  • provide evidence of their current financial circumstances.

Please note: If an applicant holds other 91²Ö¿â awarded scholarships, this may be taken into consideration in selection. There are some scholarships that cannot be held together.
